INEQUALITIES - SORT-N-MATCH-N-GRAPH

Today students are reviewing how to solve an equations do they can solve inequalities. After a quick review the students will be hunting for an Easter egg and then hunting for their partners. The object is to match up all 3 parts to this activity. The inequality, the solution, the graph. Students must be aware and able to solve inequalities in order to find the correct solution and the correct graph.

Today's activity is an adapted version of the activity available at Teachers Pay Teachers.

Teach Like Mrs. White

To get us started with equations we started with solutions. I treated it like an assignment that had to be graded. So each student got a student’ish paper and had to determine if their answers were correct or incorrect.

To step it up a little more, everyone had their own glasses and a clipboard (so they all looked like me)

MATHEMATICAL KEYWORDS

In a scattergories fashion we took turns spinning the wheel and sharing words we had that began with the letter that was selected. Fun way to share with everyone. Below is a detailed list of keywords, many of which will not be necessarily useful to translating words into algebraic expressions. They however will be helpful with word problems.

EQUIVALENT EXPRESSION (CONTINUED) WITH A TRANSLATING EXPRESSIONS ANTICIPATORY ACTIVITY

For students who did not complete Wednesdays activity they were given a day 2 version. This version is a cut-n-paste (glue for you young'ens) Instead of the paper wads the expressions were cut out and glued in the grid they started yesterday.

After they finished they were given this sheet

Nothing extravagant but it allowed them to get their brain juices flowing and change their thought process for a bit. Students were directed to google up the phrase "mathematical keywords" and click images and copy down a list of 10 for each category. Tomorrow we will share our results.
