NEW UNIT NEW VOCABULARY
Today students began learning their new vocabulary words for the algebra unit. To get them up and movie they did a combination of a wandering worksheet and crossword puzzle. We called it the Search & Find Vocab Crossword. The terms and definitions were posted throughout the room. Students had a set of clues and the puzzle. They walked around searching for the definitions that matched their clues, this is how they get the word for the puzzle. Afterwards students were given the complete word list with definitions.

BUSY BUSY BUSY
After everyone had an opportunity to order the bottle cap integers. Students began working with the coordinate plane. As everyone was working, I called on students randomly using the smart seat app to take a quick quiz over ordering integers. Student had to blindly choose 5 rocks from the bag and order them from least to greatest.
ORDERING INTEGERS
Students have been working with number lines to make sure they understand that a negative gets smaller the further away from zero. This can be confusing when the number is large and has a negative sign. I remind them about owing their mom money and they quickly get it. They have also been working with opposites, and absolute value. In this activity I threw it all in.
For this activity I used a lot of bottle caps. Wrote the integer on them with a sharpie marker. I dumped the pile in floor and then had groups come work for 3 minute rotations. I loved the discussions they were having.

POSITIVE PAULA & NEGATIVE NANCY
Positive Paula and Negative Nancy helped students learn understand that integers can represent real world situations.
While working with Paula and Nancy the class made a list of keywords for their notebooks.
Students completed the following worksheet to practice writing integers. Afterward each student created 5 integer statements to be used on tomorrow’s quick assessment.

NOT HARD NOTES
Today after our integer pretest we began the unit with a puzzle. Students were grouped and had to work to get her to reassemble the piece of paper that contained their notes for the day.
This activity makes taking notes not so hard.

Dividing Decimals by Whole Numbers Coloring Puzzle
Coloring is always fun. This was assigned after our quiz. All passing grades began coloring and had a lot of time to complete. This allowed me a lot of time to work one on one with those still struggling. As the week progressed I gave hints, (it's 100 problems).

QR CODES - DIVIDING DECIMALS BY WHOLE NUMBERS
Students absolutely love QR codes or maybe they like them. It love getting to use their own device. Either way, they get moving and stay engaged for an entire class period and that's a WIN!
I created 10 problems (with 10 correct answers), 20 incorrect answers (I used the same digits just moved the decimal points around). Then I used a QR code app to create the codes for my problems. Here are some pictures from the app.
(Above) I typed all of this in the app and a code was created. When it was scanned this was visible to my students. They had a recording sheet (I'll attach later) they wrote the problem, worked it, and then looked around the room for a poster with their answer. When it was found they had to scan the code and get an oops or correct message.

MULTIPLYING DECIMALS ASSESSMENT + DIVIDING DECIMALS NOTES = SUPER FUN
Students were asked to work their problem on the back of their envelope. When all students had finished hey were directed to put themselves in order from least to greatest. At this time they removed the note from their envelope and held it out. This is where I was able to assess them. If they correctly worked their problems the statement that I read aloud made sense. If there had been errors we would notice them very quickly. I was able to check and discuss errors with the few rather than grade the entire class. When the statement was complete, I recorded a short video so we could take notes.
The statement was the first set of notes for the next topic, dividing decimals by a whole number.

MULTIPLYING DECIMALS - TAKE 4
If students made their 100 then they got to move on to practice our next topic of dividing decimals by a whole number.
MULTIPLYING DECIMALS (BALL TO THE WALL)
The classes had a great time throwing a ball at the smartboard on Friday. This was a fun and very different approach to working practice problems. You can find the link to this activity at https://goo.gl/fC7Fas

ADDING & SUBTRACTING DECIMALS ESCAPE GAME
Friday in class the students practiced working on their adding/subtracting decimals skills while working with word problems. Students were put into groups, handed a clue, and could not open their first lock until all group member had agreed upon the answer.
I got some interesting looks as I purchased 9 tool boxes and 8 4-digit combination locks. I also got a 4-digit bike lock for the final box.
This my first time to try the escape game and I have already learned a lot for the next time. I love making math fun.
