DATA DATA DATA

We got a late start tracking our data. Each student got their tracking sheet today and got it up-to-date and glued inside their math notebooks. Below is an example.

PRACTICE - ORDER OF OPERATIONS

After we completed our Vocabulary Test students continue practicing the Order of Operations. We are making sure we underline the step we are working on so we don't get confused.

ORDER OF OPERATIONS "WHAT DO I DO FIRST?"

Together we practiced pointing out our first step. All students are very aware of what to do first. Tomorrow we will talk about continuing the work to simplify our expressions.

INTRODUCING ALGEBRA VOCABULARY

I created a crossword puzzle using the units vocabulary words. There are 24, this is one of the largest a units for 6th grade. Students were given the clues and then had to find the definition in the hallway in order to know the correct word for the crossword puzzle. They were moving the entire class period.

When time was up all students received the word list with definitions to tape inside their math notebook on page 26.

We will have a vocabulary test on October 28.

DISTANCE BETWEEN 2 POINTS

For each of these problems we found the absolute value of each coordinate and then added or subtracted the 2 values.

PLOTTING POINTS PRACTICE

Today in class students are using what they know about plotting points to create a picture. I love MINION so that is the theme for today.

Thanks to Teachers Pay Teachers I found this all ready to go. Click the picture to take you to TPT.

I created 1 more option for my students. BEDO!

COORDINATE PLANE - NOTES

For a quick review students filled in the first blanks. The remainder of the definitions were found written very very very small on the back of their paper. They were given magnifying glasses to read the back and then recopied the definitions to the front of their papers. This sheet was taped inside their notebook on page 23.

COMPARING INTEGERS

Students have these notes copied in their math notebook on pages 21 and 22.

To practice comparing integers students used a deck of cards.

This was a great way to practice comparing integers. It gave the students a good opportunity to use their knowledge and debating skills.
